A Live Virtual Classroom (LVC) means a meting of students and teachers over the internet, than physical classroom.
LVC is a live internet based collaborative and interactive environment with full duplex audio /video. It mimics a real classroom in every way whilst offering superior functionalities.
Features
- Voice conferencing - The video conferencing allows faculty to identify and manage “ the student ” who is speaking or raising a query.
- Real Time: The real-time video conferencing enables users to see the faculty or other designated participants.
- Shared whiteboards - Multi-user, interactive whiteboard markup, including content created in a breakout room.
- Live presentation tools - It can include pre-recorded video clips, audio clips, animated GIFs and other multimedia content including Flash, DHTML, and JavaScript.
- Application sharing – The faculty and students can share any Windows application, including their entire desk top or even a remote server, with other learners.
- Live test s – The assessment of the learning process of a student is continuous. The assessment is tracked and reported online and additional custom reports can easily be generated
- Audience control tools - These include microphone and camera control. In the real classroom, the teacher may ask a mischievous student to go out of the class, whereas in the LVC the teacher can refuse to hand over the mike to such student!
- Feedback - Students can raise their hand, indicate a yes /no polling, demonstrate laughter and applause responses, utilise public /private text chat, and provide anonymous feedback to the faculty. All this is done in the real classroom, too except that anonymous feedback is not possible, which prevents many a student s to give their true feedback.
- Chat - The LVC comes with powerful Chat features which allow chat between the instructor s or between instructor / s and students. This feature not only allows quick communication but also can be creatively utilised e.g. to communicate during low bandwidth situation or to ask random question /query on the fly. Like in the real classroom, the chat between students is not allowed to maintain order in the class.
- Live voting - Students can be asked to give their feedback / answer to any survey under taken by the faculty, much like the real classroom. In the LVC, the faculty has the discretion, to make the results public.
- Web Safari – This refer s to leading a live web browsing session. It allows the faculty to take the learners on a synchronized Web tour. They can see the faculty’s “pointer” and automatically scroll when the faculty scrolls up and down on a Web page. This feature is not available in the real classroom.
- Breakout rooms – The instructor can break the main LVC into multiple breakout rooms for team or individual lab exercises. The faculty can also “look over the student’s shoulder” and even take control of the application. The physical classroom, also offer s similar facility, though faculty cannot look over the shoulder of all breakout rooms simultaneously, which is possible in the LVC.
- Multiple Faculties - The LVC allows up to 4 faculties who can log in from different regions simultaneously. This lets students learn from the best faculties wherever they are located. This feature is rarely available in the real classroom.
- Multi-sensor y learning - In a LVC students learn from visual stimuli such as video, some other s learn best by listening or solving a problem live in the presence of other students / faculty. Besides, use of Animation during LVC add to better learning experience.
- Highly effective to deliver quick learning to masses - A LVC is an excellent tool to deliver quick training to masses dispersed geographically. You can use to deliver learning to address frequent changes in technology, law, regulations etc.
How it works?
- Faculty and students can conduct / attend the virtual classroom from Sify-IWAY or Reliance Web World in case they don’t have the
- Necessary internet bandwidth or computer systems with headsets and webcams.

- Internet Explorer 5.01, Netscape 7.2, Firefox 1.0 or later.
- Redundant Internet Bandwidth: One way video 64 Kbps, Two way video 128 Kbps
- P350+ MHz, 128+ MB memory (Power backup of upto two hours)
- 800x600 16-bit color display or better
- Good quality headset with mike and webcam
